Frequently asked questions

Which algorithm should I use?

SHA-256 is the most common general-purpose choice today. SHA-1 is considered weak for security purposes but still used for checksums.

Why isn't MD5 included?

Browsers' built-in SubtleCrypto API doesn't implement MD5, and it's cryptographically broken — SHA-1 or better is recommended even for non-security checksums.

Is my text uploaded?

No. Hashes are computed locally using the browser's SubtleCrypto API — nothing is sent to a server.
